What Are Wisdom Teeth?

Wisdom teeth are the last set of molars to emerge, typically between ages 16-21. While some people have enough space for them to erupt properly, most experience complications due to limited room in the jaw. These molars can become impacted, grow at an angle, or only partially erupt, leading to pain, infection, and crowding.

Wisdom teeth that don’t have enough space to emerge properly can cause various oral health issues, including:

  • Impaction – Trapped beneath the gums or jawbone, causing pain and swelling.
  • Infections – Partially erupted wisdom teeth can create pockets where bacteria accumulate, leading to gum infections.
  • Teeth Shifting – Pressure from erupting wisdom teeth can move surrounding teeth out of alignment.
  • Cysts & Damage – In some cases, impacted teeth can form cysts or tumors, affecting bone and nearby teeth.

What to Expect During Removal

Our dentist will take X-rays to assess the position of your wisdom teeth and determine if removal is necessary. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia, nitrous oxide (laughing gas), or general anesthesia for a comfortable experience. We provide detailed post-operative care instructions to help you heal properly.
