Baby Teeth

Understanding baby teeth and the foundation for a healthy smile.

Baby teeth begin emerging between 6 to 12 months, and by the age of 3, most children will have all 20 primary teeth in place. As teeth come in, some children may experience discomfort due to the pressure caused by eruption. This teething discomfort can be managed by gently rubbing their gums with a clean finger, a cool, damp cloth, or offering a teething ring. Parents should avoid liquid painkillers and sugary teething biscuits, as they can lead to early tooth decay.

The American Dental Association (ADA) recommends that children visit a dentist by their first birthday or within six months of their first tooth erupting. Early visits help familiarize children with the dental office and allow parents to receive guidance on oral care, feeding habits, and common concerns such as thumb-sucking or pacifier use. Establishing good oral hygiene habits at an early age helps create a strong foundation for lifelong dental health.
