As you may already know, recovery is vital if you want a strong and successful oral health, especially after root canal treatment in Tampa, Florida. So, if you’re about to have your tooth restored with a root canal, our Generations Cosmetic and Family Dentistry team would like to give you the tips you need to fully recover. Those tips are:

Take prescribed medications

Your dentist should prescribe some anti-inflammatory or anti-pain medications to you after your surgery. These medications will help with the pain. If you do not have prescribed medications, you can use over-the-counter pain medications, like Advil or Motrin, to help with the discomfort.

Avoid using that tooth

We strongly recommend chewing on the opposite side of your mouth if your doctor hasn’t restored your tooth with a dental crown or filling. If you avoid using that tooth, you will prevent recontamination and infection.

Brush and floss

It is best that you brush and floss your teeth like you normally would. That way your smile will remain healthy, strong, and clean, and it has the best chance of fully recovering.

Rest

We generally recommend that patients rest at least 24 hours after treatment. However, every patient is different and we might give you a different recommendation. So, no matter what we tell you, make sure you give your smile the recovery time it needs.

As you do these four things, you will be working toward the smile you deserve. For more information and recovery tips, please don’t be afraid to call our office and talk to our wonderful Generations Cosmetic and Family Dentistry team. We also encourage you to schedule an appointment with Dr. David Goldschein if you have any concerns about your oral health. We care for you and your smile, and we look forward to helping you!
